1. Overview

A Salesforce Sandbox is commonly used for testing, validation, and training before deploying changes to Production.
MassMailer can be installed and configured in a Sandbox to safely test email campaigns, settings, permissions, and integrations without impacting live users or customers.

2. Why Set Up MassMailer in a Sandbox

Setting up MassMailer in a Sandbox helps to:

  • Validate MassMailer features before Production rollout

  • Test campaign execution and configurations

  • Train users without sending real emails

  • Verify permissions, templates, and automation

  • Reduce risk in Production org

3. Installation in Sandbox

Step 1: Log in to Salesforce Sandbox

  • Log in using the Sandbox URL

  • Ensure you have System Administrator access

Step 2: Install MassMailer Package

  • Use the MassMailer installation link provided by the support team

  • Choose Install for All Users (recommended for testing)

  • Wait for the installation to complete

4. Post-Installation Configuration

After installation, basic configuration is required before using MassMailer.

Step 1: Assign Permission Sets

Assign MassMailer permission sets to required users:

  • Admin users

  • Marketing or campaign users

  • Support/test users

Without permission assignment, MassMailer components will not be visible.

Step 2: Verify App Access

  • Open the App Launcher

  • Search for MassMailer

  • Confirm the MassMailer app and tabs are accessible

5. Email Delivery Behavior in Sandbox

Important Sandbox limitations:

  • Emails sent from Sandbox are not delivered to real recipients

  • Salesforce may route emails to test addresses

  • Email tracking behavior may be limited

This is expected Salesforce behavior and does not indicate a MassMailer issue.

6. Configure Email Settings

To ensure correct testing:

  • Verify Salesforce Deliverability settings

  • Check organization-wide email settings

  • Confirm sender details configured in MassMailer

These settings control whether emails are logged, queued, or blocked in Sandbox.

7. Testing MassMailer Campaigns

Recommended testing steps:

  • Create a small test campaign

  • Use internal or dummy email addresses

  • Validate:

    • Campaign execution

    • Tracking records creation

    • Report data population

    • UI behavior and errors

Avoid using real customer data in the Sandbox.

8. Data & Feature Differences from Production

Be aware of the following:

  • Sandbox data may be outdated or masked

  • Some integrations may not be enabled

  • Email limits may differ from Production

  • Connected apps and auth tokens may need reconfiguration

Always validate behavior again in Production before go-live.

9. Best Practices

  • Use Sandbox only for testing and training

  • Do not rely on Sandbox email delivery results

  • Revalidate MassMailer settings after Sandbox refresh

  • Document tested configurations for the Production setup
